Welcome to Dyslexia Global Support!

Welcome to Dyslexia Global Support, a global community for dyslexia awareness. At Dyslexia Global Support our aim is to create a greater awareness about dyslexia which for many parents and teachers is a learning disorder which is still shrouded in mystery. Let us come together to share our experiences, educate each other and empower ourselves.

About Dyslexia

'Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction.

Dyslexia awareness around the world

Over the last few months, I've been communicating with some very friendly, informative and interesting people on Facebook, in a group called 'The Dyslexia Group.'

My story - By Stephen McCue

As a child I loved school but I always seemed to struggle with writing and spelling. I also struggled with reading but gained a love of books from my father.

My teachers were always telling me I was a bright kid but I just couldn’t show it at exams. In the end I just stopped attending school at the age of 14. I got myself into trouble with the law like many male dyslexics but I was lucky as I excelled in music and became a musician for a long time. I also worked in a lot of low level jobs to help support my music.

The importance of Speech and Language

Communication skills are central to a child’s learning and development. These skills are fundamental if children and young people are to take an active part in family, school and social life.

In order to understand the importance of speech and language, it is necessary to firstly define them so that their function can be understood.
